Graduate Student Issues
I currently serve as a student representative on the Graduate Program Steering Committee in the Duke Department of Neurobiology. In this role, I bring student perspectives to a faculty committee in order to provide suggestions for improvement of the PhD program and its resources. Specific changes for which I have advocated include structural modifications of core courses and clarification of the reporting process for student concerns.
I also serve on my department's Diversity & Inclusion Committee, where I plan and execute public conversations and trainings covering topics such as implicit bias and bystander intervention.
Because of my advocacy as a student representative, the department has made changes such as eliminating the GRE requirement for admission and demystifying the student recruitment process to promote equity, diversity, and inclusion.
